American Institute of Architects designs Covid strategies for schools, offices and shops

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has created a series of resources called Reopening America: Strategies for Safer Buildings, to help reduce the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The organisation has released separate 3D design models and strategies for schools, shops and offices.

The AIA’s research focused on reducing the spread of pathogens in buildings, partly by making it easier to achieve physical distancing. It also covers mental well-being, and the way everyone expects buildings to function.

The research was based on science, infectious disease transmission data and epidemiological models.

Earlier this year, the AIA created an assessment tool to evaluate buildings which could contain possible hospital bed space to aid those suffering with the Covid-19 pandemic.
