A team of Arup, Cimic Group subsidiary CPB Contractors, Jacobs and McConnell Dowell has won a contract from state-owned company Main Roads Western Australia to deliver the Kwinana Freeway Upgrade between Perth’s Roe Highway and Safety Bay Road.
The project aims to reduce congestion and improve travel times and safety.
The team’s scope of work includes construction of an 11km lane in each direction between Russell Road and Mortimer Road, building a 3.3km northbound lane from Russell Road to Beeliar Drive and construction of a 2.5km southbound lane and bridge widening between Roe Highway and Berrigan Drive.
Improvements will also be made to noisewalls, safety barriers, surfacing, drainage and ramp signals will be added.
A staged construction approach aims to minimise disruption for motorists.
CPB Contractors says its share of the contract is worth US$180m (A$250m).
At present, the Kwinana Freeway accommodates around 100,000 vehicles daily, 10-15% of which are heavy freight vehicles.
