Italian contractor Astaldi has won a €356m contract for a 30km section of the Sibiu to Pitesti motorway in Romania.
Astaldi’s contract involves work on Lot 5 of the motorway for the state-owned CNAIR.
The engineering, procurement and construction job is 85% funded by the EU, and 15% from Romania’s state budget. An advance payment is expected to help start work.
Work on the project will take five years, with one year dedicated to design and four for construction.
Astaldi’s order backlog in Romania is now worth €1bn, and includes work on CNAIR’s Braila Bridge, a 2km-long suspension bridge over the Danube, and 20km of the Ogra to Campia Turzii motorway.
