UK-headquartered engineer Buro Happold has been appointed lead design consultant to masterplan and design the public realm, landscape, infrastructure and utilities for Expo 2030 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
It will provide design and technical services, focusing on event requirements, the legacy phase, infrastructure design, utilities, public realm, landscape and engineering support during construction.
Oliver Plunkett, Buro Happold’s chief executive, said: “Our role as lead design consultant for the detailed master plan and infrastructure design underscores our commitment to creating world-class, sustainable environments.
“A vision on this scale requires us to approach the design with sensitivity to both the event itself and the legacy it will leave for the Kingdom and generations to come.”
The event will attract 197 participating countries and 29 companies on a 6 million sq m site. Expo 2030 Riyadh’s theme is “Foresight for Tomorrow” and is a part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative, an attempt to diversify the kingdom’s economy.
