Parts needed to assemble central Africa’s first-ever modular office building in Cameroon have been dispatched from China and are due to arrive for assembly in March 2026.
The “Office Building Project” will be located in the Bastos District of the capital Yaoundé. It will have 78 modular units on a 3,000-sq-m site, and will comply with the region’s permanent building standards.
It will have offices, meeting rooms and dining facilities for nearly 200 people, plus prayer rooms and nursing areas.
90% of construction and prefabrication works were undertaken by China International Marine Containers (CIMC) at its factory in Guangdong, China. The company also shipped the parts.
Construction is estimated to take half the time when compared to traditional building. It is due to be completed in the second half of 2026.
CIMC says that due to the growth of finance, technology and trade in Cameroon there is a rising demand for modern office and living spaces that traditional construction methods are unable to fulfil.
CIMC plans to create a “China Construction” building standard, focusing on speed and environmental features.
