Chinese firms start two “landmark” bridges in Manila, Philippines

Under its "Build, Build, Build" infrastructure push, the Philippines has signed a $101.6m (643.5 million yuan) contract with two Chinese firms to build two bridges, financed by China.

The country’s Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) signed the deal with designer CCCC Highway Consultant Ltd., and contractor China Road and Bridge Corporation, on Friday, 27 April.

The companies now have the green light to start surveying, design and construction of Binondo-Intramuros and Estrella-Pantallon bridge projects.

DPWH said the bridges, paid for by a Chinese grant, will be new landmarks in the cities of Manila, Makati, and Mandaluyong.

CCCC Highway Consultant will be responsible for detailed engineering design and construction supervision.

China Road and Bridge Corporation will handle the civil works of the bridges.
