The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen professional standards, talent development and industry knowledge with the Hong Kong Institute of Construction (HKIC), a professional body and member of the Construction Industry Council (CIC).
The MoU aims to increase safety standards and operational efficiency through training programmes, creating pathways for HKIC graduates into CIOB membership, including Technical Membership (TechCIOB), with a clear career progression and access to internationally recognised professional qualifications.
Further collaboration opportunities, including vocational programmes and professional certification initiatives, building closer ties between education and professional recognition, and creating greater value for students and practitioners within the wider construction industry, are to be explored.
The signing was accompanied by a tour of the Centre for Future Construction, displaying strategies to adopt new technologies, such as AI, building information modelling and digital twins.
The document was signed by the Director of HKIC Morgan Yang and Director of the CIOB Academy Adrian Montague.
It was witnessed by executive director of the CIC Ir Albert Cheng, and chair of CIOB’s Hong Kong Hub Committee Kelvin Choi MCIOB.
Ir Albert Cheng highlighted Hong Kong has long served as a “super connector” by linking the Chinese mainland to the international community.

Adrian Montague said: “For the Chartered Institute of Building, this is another important partnership with a prestigious organisation which will help in supporting our valued international community of built environment students, academics and professionals and help all of us in delivering high standards and driving the industry forward.”
Commenting on the Centre for Future Construction, Adrian Montague said: “it was inspiring to see firsthand how HKIC is not just embracing technology but leading the way toward the future of construction. Their innovative use of tools like 4S Hub, smart site safety systems, and immersive virtual reality experiences showcases a forward- thinking approach that resonates with our commitment to Modern Professionalism at the CIOB.”
“The Digital Twin Hub and AI Hub serve as a testament to their dedication to equipping the workforce with essential skills and knowledge. HKIC is setting a benchmark for the industry by fostering an environment where cutting-edge technology and education converge to enhance productivity and safety in construction.”
