Egis launches Philippines water centre

France’s Egis has set up a centre in the Philippines specialising in water management challenges caused by climate change and urbanisation.

The Egis Production Centre Philippines (EPCP) will have 20 employees trained in flood control, drainage and urban water treatment.

The EPCP will work on rural initiatives such as flood management and irrigation, and urban water systems like treatment plans and networks.

The EPCP’s initial assignments include a 2D hydraulic modelling study covering 600km of the Danube River to assess navigability, a water management plan for the Al-Ula Sharaan project in Saudi Arabia and preliminary design work for the “Salinity Barrier” project in Sri Lanka involving dam and dike infrastructure.

The EPCP follows an integrated flood risk management project, called the Infrastructure Preparation and Innovation Facility, which involved over 150 engineers.

Xavier Lazennec, Egis’ water, environment and energy transition director, said: “The EPCP enhances our capacity to provide tailored water management solutions, essential as we confront increasing climatic challenges.”

Romain Rasse, Egis’ water production centre director, said: “Our focus is on practical solutions that align with local and global needs, particularly in the face of rising natural disasters and water demands.”

Less than a year ago, Egis opened an office in the Philippines targeting public-private partnerships, operations and maintenance, and projects in rail, airport, roads and energy.
