Europe’s largest modular tower snaps into place in Wembley

The last module has been slotted into position on Europe’s largest modular tower in Wembley, northwest London.

The 29-storey Apex House consists of 679 modules that will create 580 rooms for students when it is finished, in time for the academic year in September.

Completed in only 12 months by Vision Modular Systems and Tide Construction, the modules were shipped from a factory in Bedford 97km away with the electricity prewired and plumbing, furniture and windows already installed.

The modules were stacked to a height of 90m in only 13 weeks.

The development, designed by architect HTA Design, has a BREEAM rating of "excellent" and will include communal facilities, a cinema and an outdoor courtyard.

Christy Hayes, chief executive of Tide, said: "Modular construction provides a much faster alternative to traditional construction without compromising on the quality of the building, or the versatility of the design.

"Modular produces 80% less waste, requires fewer onsite workers and provides certainty of cost and time."
