A joint venture of Hochtief subsidiary FlatironDragados and Sweden’s Skanska has won a contract for road improvements at Los Angeles International Airport’s (LAX) as part of the airport’s Airfield and Terminal Modernisation Program.
Working for client Los Angeles World Airports, the JV will provide detailed designs for 6.4km of reconfigured roadway, undertake bridge construction, and modify traffic signals.
To date, the joint venture has won $604m of work at LAX, which is part of a larger $1.5bn capital improvement project, including traffic monitoring upgrades to reduce vehicle-waiting times.
The airport is being upgraded ahead of the 2026 World Cup and 2028 Summer Olympics.
Dale Nelson, FlatironDragados’ executive vice president, said: “Our work will not only support the airport’s modernisation, but benefit local residents and communities by reducing congestion, improving safety, and leaving behind infrastructure for the region well beyond the Olympics.”
