Governor signs off $101m for New York rail and port upgrades

New York State Governor Kathy Hochul has allocated $101m for 25 rail and port upgrades.

The Long Island Rail Road will get $10m to upgrade the Fresh Pond Yard and English Kills bridges.

$10m will go towards a fully electrified maritime hub in Hunts Point and rehabilitating Pier 10 to support the Red Hook Container Terminal.

The Oatka Creek Bridge on the Rochester & Southern Railroad will be replaced for $5.9m.

$4.6m will be used for bridge and track rehabilitation on the Buffalo and Pittsburgh Railroad and $4.2m will go towards rehabilitating the rail line at Rotterdam Branch on behalf of Pan Am Southern’s railway.

$3.2m will establish direct rail access to the South Buffalo Railroad at the UFP facility in Lackawanna, $1.7m will connect a grain facility to the Finger Lakes Railway in Waterloo and $1.6m will improve rail infrastructure in Sangerfield.

Marie Therese Dominguez, New York State transportation commissioner, said: “Freight rail and port infrastructure is critical to New York’s global footprint while providing cost-effective solutions to getting goods to market quickly and efficiently.”
