Switzerland’s Holcim has completed its acquisition of French precast concrete company Alkern for an unspecified amount, growing Holcim’s share of the walling, flooring and water management systems market.

Founded in 1972, Alkern has 1,000 employees and 50 production sites in France and Belgium, with estimated 2025 net sales of €250m.

The acquisition will add to Holcim’s growth target for its building solutions branch to account for 50% of group net sales by 2030.

The deal is expected to generate €11m in what Holcim called “run-rate synergies” by its third year.

Dragan Maksimovic, Holcim’s head in west Europe, said: “Alkern’s leading precast concrete offering in France, as well as its specifiable walling, flooring and water management systems, are highly complementary to Holcim’s portfolio and will expand our high-value building solutions.”

Holcim has recently been on an acquisition spree, buying a majority stake in Peruvian materials manufacturer Cementos Pacasmayo, and German materials, walling and insulation specialist Xella in a deal worth €1.85bn.

It also divested its 84% stake in Lafarge Africa to China’s Huaxin Cement.
