Hong Kong investigates Central Police Station collapse

The Hong Kong Government is to investigate Sunday’s collapse of the Central Police Station Compound (pictured), which was under renovation.

The government’s Buildings Department (BD) was notified that parts of the roof and chunks of the first and second floor of Block 4 compound had collapsed on 29 May.

The affected floor area measures around eight metres by 10 metres.

The building has been closed for further investigation, clearing-up and temporary propping and strengthening.

A demolition contractor is working on clearing the debris.

Prior to the incident, approved structural strengthening works were being carried out on the building.

Work on the property will resume as soon as possible, the BD said.
