New Jersey roadbuilder MV Contracting has agreed to pay $950,000 to resolve allegations it represented itself as a disadvantaged business enterprise (DBE) to obtain federal contracts, while not accepting any liability over the charges.

According to the US Attorney for New Jersey, the company allegedly won multiple contracts reserved for DBEs from the Federal Highway Administration (FHA), despite not being a DBE.

The FHA created DBE contracts to counteract discrimination in federal highway work.

The case was brought by assistant attorney Mark Orlowski of the Health Care Fraud Unit in Newark.
