Arup, CH2M and others win roles on $23bn Heathrow expansion

London’s Heathrow airport has announced the four winning bidders to assist in a $23bn expansion.

Following a competitive process Arup, CH2M, MACE and Turner & Townsend have been chosen to work alongside Heathrow Airport Limited to deliver the programme.

Last July the Government’s independent Airports Commission unanimously recommended a third runway at Heathrow and said that it could be done within environmental limits.

Heathrow is now ready to begin the process of expansion as soon as the Government gives the green light.

The airport operator said the expansion is intended to create a "world class, sustainable hub airport which is commercially attractive to both Heathrow’s shareholders and the airlines."

The client partners will ensure the "programme is delivered to the highest industry standards in planning, innovation and quality."

Ian Ballentine, Heathrow Director of Procurement said: "This privately financed project will benefit the whole UK as we work to widen the supply-chain right across the nation."

James Rowntree, CH2M’s Managing Director of Transportation in Europe said: "Improving access and capacity at high quality international aviation hubs such as Heathrow is critical to London and the wider UK economy ensuring that the country remains competitive on the global stage."

Heathrow is the busiest airport in the UK and sixth busiest airport worldwide by passenger traffic.
