Burkina Faso signs $59m road financing deal with IDB

25 February 2014

The Islamic Development Bank has signed a financing agreement providing a $59m contribution for the construction of a 91km road in the landlocked west African country, Burkina Faso.

The road will connect agricultural areas to the rest of the country and facilitate easy transport and marketing of the crops. It will also help connect Burkina Faso to neighbouring Mali, both member countries of the IDB.

Since joining IDB in 1978, Burkina Faso has obtained more than $770m for 105 projects in different sectors, including agriculture, power generation, health, education, infrastructure, rural development and trade.
