Some 65 finalists from 26 countries have been shortlisted from 250 applicants for the semi-finals of Dubai’s Hyperloop Design Competition
The teams were selected from international universities and engineering and design firms including Aecom, Arcadis, Gensler Architecture, MIT and the University of Tokyo.
The goal of the competition is to design a Hyperloop prototype that will reduce travel time between Dubai and the eastern emirate of Fujairah from two-and-a-half hours to less than 10 minutes.
Submissions will be judged on efficiency, cost and feasibility.
Mattar Al Tayer, the chairman of the board of directors of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, said: "The selection of a judging panel made up of top-ranking experts and specialists in the most advanced technologies reflects our seriousness about adopting only the most original of ideas, and to later turn them into feasible projects that will create a better future for the generations to come."
The committee is made up of experts and specialists from the world’s largest IT companies, in addition to representatives from local and international government agencies.
The competition will be taking place in Dubai in the first week of October, when six teams will present live demonstrations of their designs to the judges.
