New York construction executive sentenced to 38 months for bribery and tax evasion

A former director of global construction at New York firm Bloomberg LP has been sentenced to 38 months in prison for soliciting bribes and pocketing $1.45m for subcontracting work on which he did not pay taxes.

Anthony Guzzone worked with other Bloomberg managers and Turner Construction employees, to solicit over $6 million in bribes, which was typically paid in cash. He also received free construction work on his house and tickets to events such as the Superbowl.

Guzzone will face three years of supervised release and pay $574,005 in restitution to the IRS, which covers outstanding taxes and interest, according to a statement by the US Department of Justice.

Michael Campana, a Bloomberg manager, had subcontractors pay for the catering at his wedding and the wedding photographer. He has previously been sentenced to 24 months in prison for failure to report the income from bribery.

Ronald Olson and Vito Nigro, two Turner Construction officials, are awaiting sentencing.
