Spanish-Brazilian team wins $1.8bn Panama metro contract

A consortium made up of Brazilian contractors Odebrecht and Construtora Norberto and Spain’s FCC has been awarded a $1.8bn deal by the Panama Metro Secretariat for the construction of Line 2 of the Panama City Metro.

The works will include 16 stations and 21km of elevated railway lines connecting the districts of San Miguelito and 24 de Diciembre.  

This project will benefit about half a million people in the eastern Panama district.

The contract involves design engineering services, the construction of civil works, the secondary installations of the line, the supply and installation of the comprehensive railway system, rolling stock and initial commissioning of the line.

The consortium submitted a price of $1.8bn and obtained a total score of 855.98 out of a possible 1,000 for its bid.

The contract will be made official on 22 May, when the period for potential claims from applicants comes to an end.

FCC also built Line 1 of the metro.
