Tel Aviv has partnered with Israeli electric road company ElectReon and local firm Dan Bus Company to install a pilot project for the wireless charging of public transport vehicles.
A 600m stretch of electric road will be located on a 2km route between Tel Aviv University Railway Station and Klatzkin Terminal in Ramat Aviv, in the northwest of the city.

Electric buses specifically designed for the project will be charged directly from under-road electric infrastructure.
The project is part of a broader scheme to drive electric road use in the city, including introducing EV charging stations in public spaces.
Ron Huldai, Tel Aviv’s mayor, said: "We are constantly working to reduce air pollution in the city, and our strategic action plan to prepare for climate change has placed the fight against pollution at the top of the municipality’s environmental agenda.
"If the pilot is successful, we will evaluate – together with the Ministry of Transportation – its expansion to additional locations in the city."

Meital Lehavi, Tel Aviv’s deputy mayor for transport, said: "Electric transportation will assist municipal efforts to reduce air pollution and noise, and assist the transition to green modes of transport, which will contribute to improving the quality of life and the environment for residents and visitors to the city."
