Warner Brothers enlists Frank Gehry to instil “old Hollywood splendour” at new HQ

American entertainment company Warner Brothers has selected Frank Gehry to design an extension to its headquarters, located next to its main lot in the Burbank Media District in Los Angeles.

Some 74,300 sq m of office space will be split between two buildings, one seven storeys high and the other nine.

Gehry said: "Once upon a time, Hollywood Studios had an important architectural presence in the city – they were like monuments to the movie-making process. With this project, I was trying to recapture that feeling of old Hollywood splendour.

"From the freeway, the buildings are composed as one long sculptural glass façade that creates a single identity like icebergs floating along the freeway. On the studio side, the metal punched façade is terraced to relate to the scale and character of the existing studio buildings."

Groundbreaking is due start in autumn 2019. The project is due to be completed in 2023 to coincide with the centenary of Warner Brothers. The first phase of construction is due to be finished in 2022.
