A young mother, newly-engaged, who was hit by bricks and debris falling from a crane in east London last week, has died.
Kayla Boor, 29, the daughter of a bricklayer, passed away in hospital at 10.40hrs on Thursday, 29 March, two days after receiving critical injuries as she walked past a building site.
She had just dropped her child off at school, say reports.
Less than two weeks previously she announced her engagement on Facebook. Her 29th birthday occurred as Kayla, whose full name is Michaela, fought for her life on Wednesday, 28 March.
The accident took place on the Tuesday at around 9.30am beside an apartment block being built by Higgins Homes, called Bow Corner, on Burdett Road in Mile End, in the London borough of Tower Hamlets.
Tower Hamlets Criminal Investigations Department (CID) are investigating in consultation with the UK’s Health and Safety Executive.
A crowdfunding campaign to help the Boor family has been set up by Maytrix Construction, a brickwork and blockwork specialist, where her father Matthew works as a bricklayer.
"One of our employees Matthew Boor was called away from work yesterday, following the tragic accident at Mile End – His work [colleagues] have asked us to start this page to help him and his family at this difficult time," the company said the day after the accident.
Setting a target of £20,000, the total raised stood at £9,700 today. Donations can be made here.
Richard Higgins, chairman of Higgins Homes, said in a statement: "It is with great sadness and distress that we learned of the death of Michaela Boor. We are continuing to co-operate fully with the ongoing police and Health & Safety Executive investigation.
"Our thoughts remain with Michaela’s family and friends at this exceptionally sad time."
