Work has officially begun on what will be the tallest inhabited building in Canada, the 312m Sky Tower on Toronto’s harbour front.
The 95-storey building will be part of a number of towers in the One Yonge development, designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects for Pinnacle International, a Canadian developer specialising in luxury apartments.
The first phase of the scheme, completed in 2018, was a 65-storey residential tower containing 497 apartments.
The second phase will add the Sky Tower, containing 800 apartments.
Two later stages of the project will add an 80-storey tower and three other buildings, including a 12-storey addition to the Toronto Star building.
The architect notes that the aim of the scheme is to "densify and enhance the urban streetscape".Â

Among the amenities being installed at the Sky Tower are an outdoor pool, yoga studio, games centre and party space, as well as outdoor areas for barbecues.
The towers’ podiums will be connected by glass atria and will have retail and community areas.
Altogether the Pinnacle One Yonge development will include more than 2,200 apartments, 140,000 sq m of office space, 15,000 sq m of retail, a 250-room hotel and a 1ha park.
