Arcadis selected for $125m restoration of US Air Force Base

Engineer Arcadis has been selected by the Air Force Civil Engineer Centre to manage the environmental restoration of 107 sites on the 150 square-mile Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

Some $27m of the 10-year, $125m contract, has been authorised to date. Arcadis will work with the air force to return brownfield areas to beneficial use, improve the quality of drinking water and restore balance to ecosystems. 

It will also clean up 14 groundwater plumes, 31 soil contaminated sites, 58 petroleum-contaminated sites and four landfills, achieving closure at 92% of the sites and optimising remediation at the remainder. 

Gary Coates, chief executive of Arcadis’ US arm, said: "The Vandenberg community will benefit from Arcadis’ innovative remedial technologies to efficiently clean up impacted areas."

Arcadis recently bought UK rival Hyder for $432m and aill program manage the new Brussels HQ for BNP Paribas Fortis.
