Architect wins top Biennale prize with coffee made from Venice canal water

Architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro has won the Golden Lion Award at the Venice Biennale for their “Canal Café”, an installation that serves espresso made from the city’s murky canal water.

The café uses natural and mechanical methods to purify the brackish water drawn onsite from the Arsenale Lagoon in an eye-catching and participatory meditation on one of our most precious resources.
