BAM to build $708m Irish children’s hospital

The Irish unit of Holland’s Royal BAM Group has been awarded a $708m (€600m) contract to build a large new children’s hospital in Dublin.

The new hospital will include over 6,150 rooms, four acres of outdoor gardens and 380 inpatient rooms, each with its own en-suite and bed for parents.

Full planning permission for the hospital, the two Paediatric Outpatients and Urgent Care Centres, a Children’s Research and Innovation Centre and a 53-unit family accommodation centre was granted in April 2016.

The 12-acre site on the St James’s Hospital campus has been fully cleared and is now ready for the laying of foundations for what BAM said is the largest public construction project awarded in Ireland.

Construction is expected to take four years.
