Belgium gets a solar-powered ski slope

Indoor ski slope SnowWorld Antwerp in Belgium has put 1,452 solar panels on its vast roof.

The transformation came about after SnowWorld rented its roof to solar company Energy Vision, who paid for the installation.

SnowWorld can use the electricity generated.

To make it happen, SnowWorld had to overlay a 1.5mm-thick membrane where the panels were to be fitted on the 12,500-sq-m expanse.

Roof membrane company Renolit Alkorplan supplied the original roof covering in 2017, and has now supplied the extra membrane to take the panels.

Renolit Alkorplan said installers analysed wind loading on the roof, which rises to a height of 40m, to determine the safest configuration.
