A five company shortlist comprising some of the biggest names in architecture has been announced to design a new building at the Basque Culinary Center in San Sebastián, Spain.

3xn, Bjarke Ingels Group, the Office of Metropolitan Architecture, Snøhetta and Toyo Ito & Associates are competing for work on the Gastronomy Open Ecosystem (GOe) project.

The GOe will be an open space allowing citizens to participate in its activities and events, while growing businesses and local talent.

The five’s designs must make the GOe fit in with its surroundings.

The winner of the competition will be announced in May 2022.
