Budimex, the Polish subsidiary of Spain’s Ferrovial, has broken ground on an $89m PepsiCo factory in Środa Śląska, Poland, the world’s first designed to be carbon neutral.
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki attended the ceremony kicking off the project to build the 54,700-sq-m plant on 30ha, which is set to complete in 2025.
Ferrovial said the plant plant will be equipped with advanced production lines with the lowest energy, water and gas consumption per kilogram of product. The building will have a water and process heat recovery system with heat conversion for cooling and heating.
It will also have a photovoltaic system, a high-performance sewage treatment plant and charging points for electric cars.
Budimex is responsible for construction, electromechanical works, land development and technical infrastructure.
