Work has been completed on Foster + Partners’ office for the city of Greenville, South Carolina. It is intended to be the “focal point” for a redevelopment programme and the link between the urban centre and surrounding parks and trails.
The four-level building has a glass curtain wall to diminish the boundary between public and government officials and to increase daylighting. It is also clad in warm-coloured metal, rhyming with the adjacent Veterans Memorial Wall, which is made from weathered steel.

An overhanging roof creates a shaded plaza where cafes and restaurants are available to workers and the public, and there will be green space for a fountain and the relocated memorial wall.
Nigel Dancey, Foster’s head of studio, said: “The building will make a significant contribution to Greenville County, acting as a place for local people to meet in serene natural surroundings.”

Another partner, Carolyn Gembles, added: “Architecture and landscape work in harmony together, creating a vibrant public space and an uplifting working environment.”
