The Eden Project in Cornwall, southwest England, is to go ahead with plans to build a similar scheme in Morecambe Bay, Lancashire, following a feasibility study.
The project has confirmed that it is seeking funding and support for its plan to construct an attraction, which may be near the site of the art deco Midland Hotel on the seafront (pictured).
Simon Bellamy, head of Eden Project International: "Morecambe has a wonderful history of being a place where people come to take the air, relax, unwind. A place of real wellbeing. The vision is to reimagine that in some way."
The Eden Project opened near St Austell in Cornwall in 2001. It consists of ETFE-foil "biomes" inserted in a former china clay pit, and which are filled with vegetation from a rain forest and the Mediterranean. It received more than a million visitors in 2017.
The company is currently working on other sites in locations including China, the US and Australia.
