Crane craned to top of Tiffany’s New York shop to renovate 1940s icon

McLaren Engineering Group has used a 500-ton Liebherr LTM 1500 crane to lift a smaller LTM 1130 mobile unit onto the roof of Tiffany & Co’s flagship 1940 art moderne shop on Fifth Avenue.

The LTM 1130, which weighs 90 tonnes, was raised seven storeys to work on a three-storey glass-walled development that will sit atop the limestone and granite shopfront.

The LTM 1500 required eight trucks to make up the 165 tonne counterweight.

Orange County Ironworks acted as contractor on the project, which includes renovating a 1980 extension that once housed office space.
