Indian Technocrats win Ethiopian highway job

20 September 2013

An India-based company has been awarded a $1.46m contract for consultation and supervision of the construction a highway project in Ethiopia.

Intercontinental Consultants and Technocrats Pvt (ICT) is working in a joint venture with the Ethiopia-based Civil Works Consulting Engineers to construct the 133km Kombolcha-Mille highway, which currently exists as a gravel road and will be upgraded to asphalt.

An Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) official told the Indo Asian News Service (IANS) that ICT India offered a lower price and beat competitors in its technical evaluation of the project.

Financed by a World Bank loan, the road will reduce travel time to the Port of Djibouti.

ICT has been in Ethiopia for 17 years and has undertaken more than 25 road projects with the ERA.

"We have worked with ERA on various projects like this and we never failed them, I guess that is why we are going to undertake this project as well," Saurabh Sharma, country manager of the company, told IANS.
