At 225 hectares in area – about the size of 225 international rugby fields combined – the solar farm in West Java will have an installed capacity of 200MW.Â
Masdar, the Abu Dhabi eco city and research institute, has struck a deal to finance the world’s largest floating solar plant with Indonesia’s Pembangkitan Jawa-Bali (PJB), a subsidiary of Indonesia’s state electricity generator.Â
The Masdar Future Energy Company will develop the 225ha, 200MW plant on the 6,000-ha Cirata Reservoir (Waduk Cirata) in West Java (pictured), UAE state news agency WAM reports.
The project, called a "pioneer of floating PV technology", aims to meet Indonesia’s rapidly growing demand for energy.

It would dwarf current claimants to the title of "world’s largest", such as Japanese schemes that together amount to around three megawatts.
Since 2006, Masdar has invested in renewable energy projects with a combined value of $8.5bn.Â
The 6,000ha Cirata Reservoir already powers a 1GW hydroelectric power station.Â
