LafargeHolcim, the world’s largest cement maker, is planning to build a $213m cement plant in the northern Indian state of Rajasthan.
The plant, which will be constructed by its Ambuja Cement subsidiary, will have a clinker capacity of 3.1 million tonnes a year.
Jan Jenisch, LafargeHolcim’s chief executive, said: "India is the second biggest global cement market and is forecasted to continue to see high growth rates.
"We are excited to invest in this highly attractive market to further strengthen our footprint and to reinforce our leading building materials position in India."
The plant is due to be operational by the second half of 2020.
Last year LafargeHolcim chief executive Eric Olsen resigned in the wake of an investigation in Syria, where the firm "had engaged in dealings with armed groups and sanctioned parties".
