Cimic wins two Australian contracts worth $322m

Australia’s largest contractor, Cimic Group, has won two projects through its subsidiaries in Queensland and Victoria worth a total of US$322m.

CPB Contractors was awarded a $225m contract by the Queensland Government to upgrade 18km of the Bruce Highway through the locality of Curra. This will involve building a highway, 19 bridges and a bypass east of the town of Gympie to improve safety and reduce congestion.

The project, which is being funded by Australian and Queensland governments, is due to begin in 2021 and be completed by 2024.

Jason Spears, CPB Contractors’ managing director, said: "We will apply our local knowledge to delivering this section safely and with the least disruption possible.

"We are also committed to engaging with local workers and businesses to facilitate skills development, work opportunities and other community benefits."

Cimic subsidiary UGL is part of an alliance that has won a contract to improve rail services for Victoria’s Gippsland line for Rail Projects Victoria. This will involve creating second platforms, station improvements, tracks, signalling and level crossing upgrades.

The project is worth $97m to UGL. Construction is due to begin in 2021 and be completed by the end of 2022.

Juan Santamaria, Cimic’s chief executive, said: "UGL has a long history of providing rail services in Victoria. We are pleased to be working closely with Rail Projects Victoria to deliver the upgrade safely and efficiently, benefitting the growing communities of Gippsland."
