Ferrovial closes $648m North Carolina highway deal

A consortium led by Ferrovial subsidiary Cintra Infraestructuras has reached financial close on a $648m toll road in North Carolina.

The I-77 Mobility Partners consortium will build and operate the 41km road for 50 years. As well as Cintra’s US arm, it includes Sugar Creek, a joint venture between Ferrovial Agroman Southeast and English Construction.

The public-private partnership is intended to begin operating from 2018.

The existing road will be rebuilt, increasing its capacity by creating managed lanes, with variable electronic tolls to improve traffic flow. The design also includes widening 41km of highway on the I-77 in the northern part of the Charlotte metropolitan area.

This is Cintra’s fourth managed lanes project in the US.
