Home run! Elon Musk proposes underground transport loop for LA baseball fans

Elon Musk’s Boring Company has put forward a plan for an underground public transportation system to carry baseball spectators to and from the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

Called the "Dugout Loop", the project could run for 6km between east Hollywood inner suburb, Echo Park and the stadium, which is in downtown LA.

The loop’s western terminal would be located on Boring Company property close to three Metro Red Line stations, one of which will be connected to the project. A "Loop Lift" would be built at the chosen station, consisting of a ramp or elevator to lower the "electric skates" that will run in the tunnel.

The electric skates can carry between eight and 16 passengers, and can reach speeds of up to 240km/h; about 100 would be able to use the system at one time.

Following tunnel construction, concrete "shelves" will serve as the guideway for the electric skates.

The Boring Company say that the project would be privately funded and the four-minute trip would cost passengers $1, although this is not finalised.

The Loop Lift

If given the go-ahead by the city of Los Angeles, building the tunnel and the loop lift would take 14 months.

Earlier this year
the Boring Group were chosen to build and operate a high-speed transit link between the city of Chicago and O’Hare Airport.
