LafargeHolcim, the world’s largest cement-maker, has won a €110m contract on Europe’s largest infrastructure project, the Grand Paris Express (GPE).
The Swiss-headquartered firm will join Italy’s Salini Impregilo, Holland’s BAM and French companies Alstom and Colas on the GPE.
LafargeHolcim will provide 600,000 tonnes of aggregates and 260,000 tonnes of cement, creating 650,000 cubic metres of ready-mix concrete, which will be used on the GPE’s 68 rail stations across 200km of railway.
LafargeHolcim says it is creating an average of 300 cubic metres of concrete per hour for the project.
The firm will remove and treat at least three million tonnes of earth from the construction site, which will be used to re-landscape nearby quarries.
Jan Jenisch, LafargeHolcim’s chief executive, said: "With this partnership we are demonstrating our leadership in the building materials industry, making a lasting contribution to improving the transport experience of the people living and working in the Paris area."
LafargeHolcim will work on the GPE over the next 15 years.
The GPE is estimated to cost a total of €38.5bn, and will improve Parisian transport links ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games.
