Skanska wins hospital contracts in Finland and Norway worth €336m

Swedish contractor Skanska has won hospital contracts in Finland worth €190m and Norway worth €146m.

The Norwegian work involves the Oslo City Emergency Centre (pictured above), located at the Oslo University Hospital’s Aker campus. It will include seven operating rooms, eight x-ray rooms and 100 examination and treatment areas.

Skanska will work with property firm Omsorgsbygg on the project, which is due to receive BREEAM Excellent status, and will be built on a construction site that uses no fossil fuels. Construction is due to start in March 2019 and be completed in mid-2023.

Oulu University Hospital

Skanska will also construct a building at Oulu University Hospital in northern Finland. This will replace hospital facilities built in the seventies with a 59,000 sq m unit on 10 storeys, including emergency rooms, intensive care units, operating rooms and delivery wards.

Two consortiums will carry out work on the project, with Skanska’s also containing Caverion, Siemens and Tierna Group.

Preparatory construction work on the project has already begun, with all construction phases due to be finished by the close of 2023.
