The tallest building in China, and the second tallest in the world, has been completed.
The Shanghai Tower (pictured) is 632m tall and is based in the city’s Lujiazui financial district, where it will rub shoulders with Kohn Pedersen Fox’s 492m Shanghai World Financial Centre and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill’s 421m Jin Mao Tower.
The twisting structure is the third to reach "megatall" status, classified as a building measuring more than 600m. In the global high-rise league table it is second only to Dubai’s 828m Burj Khalifa – and pushes the 601m Makkah Royal Clock Tower in Saudi Arabia into third.
The Shanghai Tower was designed by American architect Gensler. According to its designer, the curved facade and spiraling form symbolise the "dynamic emergence of modern China".

The 128-floor tower will contain nine "vertical neighborhoods" rising from a light-filled garden atrium called the "sky lobby".
The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) says the tower "embodies a new prototype for tall buildings".

Well all I can say is that the airline pilots of today had better not confuse their altitude in feet with
the height of any of these extreme high-rise structures usually expressed in metres!!
