German architect Büro Ole Scheeren has designed a resort complex complete with enveloping hanging gardens, located on Sanya beach on China’s southern Hainan Island.

Sanya Horizons features two hotels stacked on top of each other, attaining 160m in height.

What Büro Ole Scheeren describes as a “vertical jungle and hanging garden” can be experienced on every floor and from every room.

Ole Scheeren says the development will merge “architecture and nature into a space of synergetic habitat”.

The project is curved to allow for unobstructed sea views and for each hotel room to have access to a private terrace.

The property will also contain a six-storey-tall window located 75m up, and a 153m long infinity pool.

The 83,500 sq m project is being developed for CDF Investment & Development and the hotels will be listed under the IHG brand.

Sanya Horizons is due to be completed in 2026.
