Skanska wins US hospital contract worth $207m

Swedish contractor Skanska has won a $207m contract with University of North Carolina Hospitals to build a surgical tower in Chapel Hill.

The 31,100 sq m, seven-storey tower will contain 24 operating rooms, 56 pre and post-operating rooms and 56 intensive care rooms for patients, families and guests.

The tower will connect to Skanska’s existing facility on multiple levels, with two public bridges aiming to improve main patient entry and hospital logistics.

Construction began in October 2018 and is due to be completed in August 2022.
