Yapı Merkezi signs new railway contract worth $1.9bn in Tanzania

Turkish contractor Yapı Merkezi has signed a new railway-building contract worth $1.9bn in Tanzania.

The contract is for Lot 3 of the Dar es Salaam-Mwanza Railway. Lot 3, which is 358km in length, will run between the cities of Makutupora and Tabora and will have seven stations.

The company is also building Lots 1 and 2 of the Dar es Salaam-Mwanza Railway.

President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, presided over the signing ceremony held the Tanzania Presidential Office on 28 December, according to a Yapı Merkezi press release.

Completion of Lot 3 is expected to take 46 months.
