Zaha Hadid Architects designs solar-powered catamaran

Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) has worked with Italian super-yacht maker Rossinavi to create a flowing form for the Oneiric catamaran, a prototype that can be fully powered by solar panels.

The Oneiric contains three levels of panels integrated into its design, which charge an efficient battery pack.

The energy is managed by an AI-driven control centre that monitors energy use and battery status.

During a day trip, the Oneiric will be able to generate all the electricity needed to run. On transatlantic crossings, the yacht can use full-electric mode up to 70% of the time.

The ship’s multihull design reduces energy when compared with a monohull yacht, with a better weight distribution and length-to-width ratio, which provides greater hydrodynamic efficiency.
