Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) has unveiled designed for a Melbourne tower that is designed to look like a "stacked vase"
The project is being developed for Hong Kong’s Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group by Melbourne-based property firm Landream.
Located on Collins Street in Melbourne’s financial and legal district, 185m tower is close to the Docklands and the Southbank tourist and entertainment precinct.
Michele Pasca di Magliano, ZHA’s project director, said: "The hotel’s façade reinterprets this historical detailing in a contemporary solution, introducing a delicate filigree that gently envelops the building.
"The tower’s design conveys the wide variety of interior spaces within; dividing the building’s overall volume into a series of smaller stacked vases, with each housing the bespoke guestrooms, suites, residences or amenities of Mandarin Oriental’s renowned service and standards."
The hotel is Mandarin’s first project in Australia. It will contain 196 rooms that are designed to reflect local and Chinese culture as well as 148 apartments on the upper floors.
