Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) yesterday announced the award of two contracts with a combined value of US$400m to build four stations and associated viaducts for the Jurong Region Line.
The first contract was won by a joint venture between China Civil Engineering Construction (CCECC) and Singapore’s SCB Building Construction. It will cover the design and construction of two stations near the Jurong Town Corporation industrial area. The companies will also build a 1.1km viaduct between the stations along Jurong Pier Road.
The second contract went to local company Hwa Seng Builder. This also involves the design and construction of two stations, as well as a 1.4km viaduct between them, near Nanyang Technological University.
The construction works are expected to start in the second quarter of this year and be complete by 2029.
When complete, the Jurong Line will be an elevated Mass Rapid Transit system in the western part of Singapore. It will serve the Jurong Industrial Estate, Jurong Innovation District, Pandan Reservoir and the future Tengah area, none of which presently have direct connections to the island’s rail network.
Last September, Siemens Mobility secured a €135m contract to deliver a railway signalling system for the JRL, and in February, China Communications Construction Company won a $360m to buildÂ the Jurong East Integrated Transport Hub, which will form an interconnection with the Jurong Line (see further reading).
