India’s largest contractor names 33-year veteran chief executive

The new boss of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is to be SN Subrahmanyan, a manager who has been with the business since 1984, and has led some of its largest projects including airports in Mumbai and Delhi and metros in Riyadh and Hyderabad.

Mr Subrahmanyan, who is currently the deputy managing director, has also worked at subsidiaries LTI and L&T Technology Services, and has spearheaded the firm’s global expansion.

He said: "This is a high honour and immense responsibility. L&T is a flag bearer for Indian industry and is the builder of the India of tomorrow.

I look forward to jointly writing a new chapter for L&T along with our high calibre employees while ensuring that we continue to deliver value to our stakeholders.

"I am humbled and at the same time excited and confident to be at this role in L&T."

L&T has recently been chosen to convert the city of Nagpur into India’s first large-scale integrated "smart city" and to build a 40,000 capacity stadium for Qatar’s 2022 World Cup.
