Skanska has concluded five deals in Sweden, four construction contracts and the off-plan sale of a residential scheme it’s building, together worth a total of €593m.

Starting with the construction contracts, the company won a €400m contract to build a 90,000-sq-m emergency building at Karlstad Central Hospital in southern Sweden.

The seven-storey facility will contain an emergency department, helipad, plus maternity, infectious diseases and intensive care units.

Construction is due to begin in the autumn of 2026 and be complete in 2033.

Expanded prison

In Södertälje, Skanska has signed a €74m contract with Swedish-state company Specialfastigheter Sverige AB for the expansion of Hall prison.

Skanska has been undertaking preliminary work since the spring of 2025. Construction includes three buildings, complementary buildings, plus ground and foundation works.

The expansion is due to be completed in the spring of 2029.

New water treatment plant

Skanska also signed a €37m contract with the Gotland Region for the Visby water treatment plant, extending a previous design phase contract to include the production phase.

Skanska’s scope of work at the plant includes demolition of existing buildings, an extension and construction of a process hall and distribution building at Visby southern waterworks.

The project also includes the new construction and commissioning of a process building at Visby northern water treatment plant, including renovation and commissioning of the existing ozone plant.

Retirement home

In Leksand, Skanska has been hired by the local government to renovate and expand retirement accommodation in Edshult for €36m.

The residence contains 121 apartments for patients. Skanska says the expansion will focus on accessibility, safety, participation and quality of life.

Construction is planned to begin in the third quarter of 2026, with work expected to be completed in 2030.

Off-plan sale

In Gothenburg, Skanska has sold a self-developed 142 rental unit project (render above) in Sankt Jörgens Park on Hisingen to the Folksam Group through KPA Pension for €46m.

Buildings range from six to ten storeys tall, with a total leasable area measuring 10,100 sq m.

Residents are due to move into apartments in the second quarter of 2029, with construction starting in the fourth quarter of 2026.
