Lane Construction, a subsidiary of Italy’s Webuild, has won a $236m design-and-build contract to widen Interstate 40 in North Carolina

The company will work on a 17.7km stretch of road from the I‐85 interchange to the Durham County Line in Orange County. The project involves increasing the number of lanes from four to six.

Construction is due to begin late next year, and once completed in 2025 will improve traffic flow and relieve congestion during peak commuting times.

Existing concrete pavements and milled asphalt will be recycled into a sub‐base and pavement material for the new lanes.
